Ondo Govt. seeks doctors, nurses with assured welfare

The Ondo State Government has called on qualified doctors and nurses to apply for positions in health facilities across the state, assuring them of attractive welfare packages.
Prof. Simidele Odimayo, Special Adviser on Health Matters to Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, made the appeal during a media conference on Wednesday in Akure, while unveiling non-state actors on IMPACT Project.
Odimayo said the Aiyedatiwa-led administration had prioritised the health sector, particularly through the revitalisation of primary healthcare centres across all 203 wards in the state.
He noted that the government had ensured parity in salaries for state-employed health workers and their federal counterparts.
He described Ondo as a peaceful state with hospitable people, assuring prospective medical personnel that they would not regret working in any of the state’s health facilities.
“All revitalised primary healthcare facilities are being upgraded to meet standards that can adequately serve the healthcare needs of our residents,” he said.
According to Odimayo, each facility will be equipped with borehole water, 24-hour solar electricity, and staff accommodation to ensure round-the-clock service.
“We are also fencing the facilities to protect the staff and ensure a safe working environment,” he added.
He said the project also included the availability of essential drugs, testing kits, and regular training and retraining for healthcare workers.
The Special Adviser also highlighted the state’s proactive efforts in combating Hepatitis B by offering free treatment and logistical support to patients across the state.
He called on well-meaning individuals and organisations to support the project, describing it as life-saving.
“We are preventing liver cancer and cirrhosis by treating Hepatitis B early. This helps reduce premature deaths and the burden of grief in families,” he said.
Odimayo further revealed that the state government had allocated a significant portion of its 2025 budget to expand healthcare infrastructure.
He said collaborations with the Ministry of Infrastructure were ongoing to ensure the timely delivery of the projects.
He ended by reiterating the administration’s commitment to making essential drugs widely available in hospitals and ensuring efficient distribution across all health facilities in the state.
