Pharmacists remain the ultimate frontline fighters responsible for providing health care – Gbolagade Iyiola, PSN Lagos State Chair

The Lagos State Chair of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) Pharmacist Gbolagade Iyiola has said that pharmacists remain the ultimate frontline fighters responsible for providing health care. Stating this at the 2021 Scientific Week with the theme, “Combating Pandemic: Multilevel Engagement of Pharmacist in Nigeria” at the Lagos Sheraton Hotel Ikeja, Iyiola noted that COVID-19 has expanded the role pharmacists play in different key areas of services.
He also used the medium to appreciate the efforts of pharmacists across the globe stating that the effort of pharmacists in Nigeria was not acknowledged in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In many nations the effort of the pharmacist was well appreciated, amidst Nigeria Pharmacist which was not acknowledged for their great effort in the COVID-19 outbreak.”
On the launching of the official publication of PSN, Pharmacist Iyiola appreciated the leadership of the editorial board for keeping to their promise towards having another edition of the publication.
“Eko Pharmacist as the official organ of PSN Lagos State still remains one of the legacies bequeathed to us to provide and archive information for our members. In spite of the myriads of many social channels for information and communication, we shall continue to rebrand and make it relevant as it used to be in the past.”
Also speaking at the event, the President, PSN, represented by Pharmacist Gbenga Falabi, noted that the leadership of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in its action plan is working together in ensuring that the pharmacists are seen as primary provider and not secondary provider.
“The leadership has just introduced a strategic action plan and I can assure us that with the current leadership of the NHIS, we are working in such a way that beyond this tenure, we will be able to get pharmacists and pharmacy not as secondary provider but primary provider and it looks positive.”
“We also believe that before the expiration of this Executive Secretary’s tenure, we will be able to dialogue more to see to it that it is done” he said.
